I can completely understand the purpose of introducing the reservations in India. That was to ensure that the lower caste people get opportunities in education, jobs and thus good socio-economic condition.
One thing i couldn’t understand is the implementation of these reservations. Take an example, if a candidate say Candidate A is more qualified than Candidate B. Both attended an interview for a Govt. Job. Due to the fact that interviewer doesn’t like Candidate A because of his own reasons (let us not relate caste here), he selected Candidate B.
According to law, Candidate A can always contest the decision. He can always fight for justice. i mean not physical fight
. Our law is at least that much matured (still it is complex at times)
Now let us get back to our point. Say there are no reservations and a candidate was denied a job because he/she is from a lower caste (although he scored more than upper caste fellow). Still the above logic applies and he/she can fight for the job.
My whole point is instead of having reservations, why can’t we strengthen our law to make sure that a candidate with merit always get the benefit. Yes, i understand that in rural india, it may not be possible to fight for rights all the time. But why that situation still exists ? Because we want an easy solution. Implement reservations and forget about educating people about their rights.
I know how it feels like when you were denied a college seat because you are from so called “Upper Caste”. I know how it feels like when a candidate with 10000+ rank sat next to you in college where you secured 400th rank in the entrance exam. I still remember me not taking an engineering entrance test because of the fear that i may not get a seat in my home town. I still remember the situation when my family was totally helpless because they can’t afford my engineering education in some other town.
Situation will go bad in the years to come. Because now “Lower Castes” have 50% reservation (in some states it is more than that i guess) + Merit (because of opprtunities they got from their previous generation). Considering the fact that a Candidate with Merit will always fall in Unreserved Category irrespective of his caste, the actual %ge of reservation is more than 50%.
Now they want to implement reservations in Private Sector too. Please guys, give us an opportunity to live in the country. Otherwise we won’t even get a place in cemetery if this continues (i think that is the only place we don’t have reservations).
